Sanskrit OCR संस्कृतम्
Turn scanned Sanskrit texts printed in Devanagari into editable Unicode. The Sanskrit OCR model is trained for Sanskrit's long compounds and dense conjunct letters.

Good for
- Printed shlokas, stotras and scriptures
- Academic editions and commentaries
- Grammar and textbook pages
- Inscriptions transcribed into print
Tips for better Sanskrit results
- Sanskrit is selected on its own. Add Hindi if the page has Hindi translation or commentary.
- Editions with tight, stacked conjuncts need a 300–400 dpi scan.
- Check visarga (ः) and avagraha (ऽ) in the output: they are small and easy to miss.
How it works
- Drop a scanned PDF, photo or screenshot into the box above, or paste an image.
- Pages that already contain text are read directly. Scanned pages go through Sanskrit OCR in your browser.
- Download the result as a Markdown (.md) file, or copy it and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Word or Google Docs.
Questions
Is this Sanskrit OCR free?
Yes. Without an account you can convert 10 scanned pages a day, and a free account gives you 30. Pro removes the limit.
Are my Sanskrit documents uploaded anywhere?
No. OCR runs inside your browser. The Sanskrit language data is downloaded to your browser once, but your files never leave your device.
How accurate is Sanskrit OCR?
Clean, printed Sanskrit text at 300 dpi converts well. Handwriting, faint photocopies, stamps and decorative fonts reduce accuracy, so check names, numbers and dates against the original.
