Tamil script
Tamil OCR தமிழ்
Turn scanned Tamil documents and images into Unicode text. The Tamil OCR model handles Tamil's vowel signs, which sit before, after and around consonants, and returns clean Markdown.
● Runs in your browser. Your files are never uploaded..pdf.jpg.png.docx.xlsx.xls.csv.txtTamil and English are already selected. Add or remove languages in the box above.
Good for
- Patta, chitta and other land records
- Tamil Nadu government orders
- Tamil books, newspapers and magazines
- Temple, school and community records
Tips for better Tamil results
- Tamil and English are both selected for mixed documents. Keep only Tamil for literature.
- Older printing that uses pre-reform letter shapes may convert less accurately. Check a few lines before relying on the output.
- Make sure the page is straight. Tilted photos confuse the vowel signs that sit around consonants.
How it works
- Drop a scanned PDF, photo or screenshot into the box above, or paste an image.
- Pages that already contain text are read directly. Scanned pages go through Tamil OCR in your browser.
- Download the result as a Markdown (.md) file, or copy it and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Word or Google Docs.
Questions
Is this Tamil OCR free?
Yes. Without an account you can convert 10 scanned pages a day, and a free account gives you 30. Pro removes the limit.
Are my Tamil documents uploaded anywhere?
No. OCR runs inside your browser. The Tamil language data is downloaded to your browser once, but your files never leave your device.
How accurate is Tamil OCR?
Clean, printed Tamil text at 300 dpi converts well. Handwriting, faint photocopies, stamps and decorative fonts reduce accuracy, so check names, numbers and dates against the original.
